From elementary school to the university, the process can be made much easier by understanding one simple concept-studying is key. As we’ve already discussed ways to study math, it is important to fill you in on more general ways in which to study, and study well. The Tutoring Center in Herndon would like to start you on the right track to studying well by providing you with 5 tips to ensure you’ll be practicing great study habits in no time.

Though this may seem simple, it is so crucial to remember to write down all assignments. You may think that you’ll remember them, but the truth is that so much happens in any given day, how can you possible expect to remember everything? Get a planner or homework journal and take the time to write down all assignment, as well as when they are due.

Use color to organize your notes. It is up to you how you decide to do this. You could use one color for each class, especially if you’re keeping your notes in one notebook. You could also divide your notebook into sections and use colors to go with certain concepts while note taking. Find a system that is both visually pleasing to you as well as helpful in organization, and stick with it.

In order to stay organized and study well you should attempt to designate a study space at home. This will help you to know exactly where to go when it’s time to study, likewise you’ll know where you’ve kept your study materials. When you are in this area, your family should know that you are studying or working on homework and attempt not to disturb you, if possible.

Understanding your learning style can be key to doing well while studying. Know how you learn best and use that to your advantage. If you are an auditory learner, for example, you’ll find it easier to learn by listening. So, you could record your teacher’s lectures or listen to someone else explaining the information in a youtube video. Whereas, if you are a visual learner, it will be best for you to see concepts being lived out. With math, watching others solve problems in front of you is going to be the most helpful.

Lastly, you’ll want to ensure that you are taking the time to rest well before exams. Remember that with a study schedule, you can avoid cramming and staying up late the night before. You’ll want to study lightly the night prior to a big exam and get to sleep at a reasonable time. Wake up with plenty of time to get ready, eat a healthy and balanced breakfast, and get to school on time.
