Enjoy Learning in the Sun

The end of summer is coming, but that doesn’t mean that you can’t squeeze in a few educational and fun activities with your youngster. Below are some great ideas from The Tutoring Center, Herndon to get you all started!

Writing Picnic

Writing can often be a challenge for students, so why not make it a fun event? Pack everything you need for a picnic and then head to your favorite park or outdoor space. Once you have all played a few physical games and had some exercise, sit down and start some writing. Whether it’s a short story about a character from a book they have been reading or even just a diary entry about the day, this can work to encourage a positive connection with writing. It can also help you to identify any spelling, grammar, and sentence structure issues they are experiencing.

Reading Picnic

If reading is your student’s biggest challenge, get two copies of a book they choose and read along with them. However, instead of straight reading, stop after each chapter to talk about how the book has been and where you each think the story is going. You can even make small wagers with the person who correctly predicts the story winning a small reward.
